Given its hot-weather location, Spain is an
unsurprisingly popular travel destination.
We look at two of Spain's most visited regions...
Spain is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, as well as being a preferred country for British nationals who want to relocate. The great weather for the vast majority of the year, the famous cuisine, the vibrant culture, and the relaxing tempo of Mediterranean life all serve to make Spain a firm favourite for travelers of any age from around the world.
Cheap flights to Spain are easy to find. With many companies selling flights on the internet, it’s not hard to get to this country without breaking the bank, whether you’re visiting relatives or taking a much needed holiday.
Spain is a country famous for diversity, with all areas of the country and outlying islands being extremely popular. Some of the top destinations for British tourists, and indeed those wishing to move to the country, are Barcelona and the surrounding province of Catalonia, and also the Coast of the Sun - el Costa del Sol.
Located in Catalonia, in the North East corner of Spain, Barcelona is the second most populous city in the nation with just over 1.5 million inhabitants. The city is a major economic centre, serving as a key port on the Mediterranean coast since Roman times. It also boasts some of the most stunning architecture for any city in Europe, complete with the remarkable works of Antoni Gaudi including his masterpiece, the stunning church of the Sagrada Familia.
Whilst Barcelona has seven beaches, a seaside town called Salou, around 70 miles down the coast on the Costa Daurada, has been a more popular and cheaper holiday destination over the years for a beach holiday. This resort has extensive bars, looking out onto huge beaches, making a popular hotspot for young people. Nearby is also the famous theme park of Port Aventura – one of the largest in Western Europe.
In order to get to Catalonia, including the resort of Salou, it is likely that you will need to fly to Barcelona. Monarch Airlines often offer very cheap flights to Barcelona from Manchester Airport, combined with a quality service.
Alternatively translated into English as "the sunshine coast," the Costa del Sol lines the southern coast of Spain with over 160km of beautiful beaches. The region has seen constant growth over recent years, with widespread urbanization due to the pull of tourism. Particularly popular is the resort of Marbella – well-known for being a hang out for the rich and famous, and also for being a major golfing resort.
Golf has become a major player in the development of the Costa del Sol as a tourist resort, with some enthusiasts labeling it the "Costa del Golf." More than fifty of the top golf courses in Spain are located in the region, with a significant number being located around Marbella.
The region is chiefly served by Malaga Airport, with this city having other transport links to Sevilla, Cordoba, and Granada. Cheap flights to Malaga are available with FlyMonarch, from a number of locations across the United Kingdom.
