Air Busan

Mid-Range Low Fares : Expect some Frills

Air Busan, when it launches, will be the low cost subsidiary of Asiana Airlines. We expect it to compete strongly against Jin Air to offer some of the most competitive domestic budget flights connecting cities across South Korea.

Eastar Jet

Mid-Range Low Fares : Expect some Frills

Hansung Airlines

Mid-Range Low Fares : Expect some Frills

South Korea's first low fare airline, Hansung Airlines, started flying domestic routes in late summer, 2005. Three years later, the airline's website is still only available in Korean, but then, you can read Hangeul, right?.

Jeju Air

Mid-Range Low Fares : Expect some Frills

After months of hype, Jeju Air finally launched domestic flights in June 2006. The airline plans to commence scheduled low cost flights between South Korea and Japan before the end of 2008. At present the airline is flying on a charter basis from Seoul Incheon airport to Kitakyushu airport at the northern end of Japan's western island, Kyushu.

Jin Air

Mid-Range Low Fares : Expect some Frills

The low cost contest in South Korea has really kicked off now that Korean Air's budget subsidiary has taken to the skies. Don't be surprised at any time to see a revision of South Korea's rules regarding how long an domestic start-up airline needs to be in service before it can apply to fly international routes.

Kostar Airlines has yet to reveal its routes, but evidence suggests that South Korea's new domestic airline will almost certainly be flying between Gimpo and Cheongju.

Yeongnam Air

And another... They're not all going to survive, are they? They can't possibly. How big is South Korea? Not big enough to support nine low cost airlines, we doubt. (We didn't even mention Tiger Airways but they want to set up an Incheon-based subsidiary as well, if you can swallow that).

How quickly can you cough the word "consolidation"?
