Adam Air
Indonesian Low Cost AirlineAdam Air as been grounded for three months by the Indonesian Ministry of Transport, starting on Wednesday 19th March, 2008. The airline has been given until June 2008 to demonstrably improve its safety standard after which it may be allowed to fly again. If it fails a second inspection, however, Adam Air's aviation license will be permanently withdrawn.

Safety Record: 102 passengers and crew lost their lives after Adam Air Flight 574 crashed into the sea on January 1st, 2007. See Incidents and Accidents for more details.

Indian Low Cost AirlineAir India Express curently operates three low cost routes between Singapore and India. It is the only budget carrier offering cheap flights between Singapore and Kolkata and Tiruchirapalli, but see Tiger Airways for more competitive fares to Chennai - as well as flights to Kochi.
Note that Air India Express may also start competing with Mihin Lanka soon, offering flights from Singapore to Colombo.

Bangkok Airways
Thai Low Fare AirlineNot a budget airline, Bangkok Airways nevertheless offers relatively cheap one-way flights direct from the island of Koh Samui to Singapore. This may prove more convenient than travelling overland through southern Thailand and Malaysia or else travelling north to Bangkok where three dedicated low cost carriers connect the Thai capital to Singapore.

Singapore Low Cost AirlineOne of Southeast Asia's low cost giants, JetStar Asia operates numerous low cost routes from its hub at Singapore's Changi airport to destinations all over Southeast Asia.
Note that JetStar Asia is the only Asian budget carrier at present flying from Singapore direct to Hong Kong - though see Tiger Airways for flights to Macau.
It's also the only Singaporean low cost airline flying to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in Cambodia, Yangon in Myanmar and Taipei in Taiwan.

Lion Air
Indonesian Low Cost AirlineIndonesian low fare airline Lion Air flies from Singapore to Jakarta in competition with both Adam Air, also based in Indonesia and Valuair, based in Singapore. Either of the latter are likely to have cheaper fares than Lion Air.

Tiger Airways
Singapore Low Cost AirlineThe main competitor airline to Jetstar Asia, Singapore's Tiger Airways flies to one or two of the same destinations including Bangkok and Phuket in Thailand.
But note that in its bid to become a Ryanair-style lowest cost airline, Tiger Airways often prefers to fly to secondary airports - to Macau, for instance just across the water from Hong Kong, and to Clark Field, serving Manila, rather than to the Philippine capital's main airport.
From Singapore, Tiger Airways has the widest selection of low cost routes to Thailand and is also the only Singaporean budget carrier flying direct to China.
Tiger Airways is also, along with Jetstar Asia, one of the few Southeast Asian low cost airlines flying to Australia.

Singaporean Low Fare AirlineAt present, the low fare sister airline of JetStar Asia is only operating three routes from Singapore to Indonesia.
While Valuair's fares are not as cheap as those offered by Tiger Airways or JetStar Asia, it is the only low fare airline at present connecting Singapore to Denpasar on Bali.
