Air Berlin

Mid-Range Low Fares : Expect some Frills

Back in 2006, a year before it was taken over by Air Berlin, the German leisure carrier LTU operated scheduled flights direct to Tivat in Montenegro from Berlin Schönefeld and Düsseldorf for from €121 including taxes.

For the moment, however, Air Berlin is no longer operating either of these two routes.

Instead, your only option for the moment is to fly to Dubrovnik in Croatia with one of Europe's no-frills carriers and then take the bus south across the Montenegrin border. See the note below.

Budget Travel Tip: Cheap flights to (near) Montenegro

Since no low fare airlines currently fly to Montenegro your best alternative is to find a budget flight to the city of Dubrovnik, just north of Montenegro's border with Croatia - and then to travel south overland.

At present four dedicated European low cost carriers serve Dubrovnik: germanwings and TUIfly operate budget flights from Germany, Norwegian flies from Norway and Sky Europe connects to southern Dalmatia from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.

Additionally, two flag carriers - British Airways and Aer Lingus - operate low fare routes to Dubrovnik from the UK and Ireland. And the low fare airlines Estonian Air and Fly LAL fly to southern Dalmatia from the Baltic States of Estonia and Lithuania respectively.
