Asian Low Cost No Frills Airlines
In 2006, low cost airline routes across Asia multiplied dramatically and for the first time it became possible to fly low cost to destinations such as Myanmar (on JetStar Asia & Air Asia) and Brunei (on Air Asia).
However, the biggest innovation was the introduction of low fare mid-haul and long haul routes. In 2006, low cost routes were launched from Hong Kong to Mumbai in India (via Singapore) on JetStar Asia, from Macau to the Maldives on Viva Macau and - with some fanfare - from Hong Kong to London Gatwick on Oasis.
In 2007, we're looking forward to the launch of Sri Lanka's first two low cost airlines - Air South Asia (originally Holiday Air) and Mihin Lanka - as well as to more low cost long haul routes from both Viva Macau and Oasis. And we're predicting the first low cost airline routes from Southeast Asia to Japan.
