A funicular railway climbs up into the mountains behind Kobe to a point with an outlook across the rural landscape of Hyogo-ken. From the summit a cable-car travels onwards, down the far side of the range to Arima Onsen, famed for its pungent but curative spa. The forests above Arima set the mountainside aflame in the Japanese autumn.
