Low Cost Airlines in Australasia
Newly announced no-frills carrier KiwiJet aims to provide a genuinely low cost domestic alternative to Air New Zealand's grabaseat fares.
The airline said it will offer flat fares of NZ$150 between Auckland & Christchurch and will also fly to Dunedin & Invercargill. But can KiwiJet compete environmentally against nakedbus or prove more popular?

Low Cost Airlines in Europe
The UK's latest low cost airline is the Dundee-based Whoosh which will fly to both Belfast City & Birmingham for a little as £41 including taxes.
Controversially, the airline argues that flying by turbo-prop is more environmentally friendly than travelling by car. But does the UK really need another domestic low cost airline?

Low Cost Airlines in the Middle East
Budget airlines are establishing low cost routes linking Europe and the Middle East. In April, Smart Wings announced new routes to Dubai from both Prague & Budapest.
Meanwhile the Kuwait-based low fare carrier Jazeera Airways is now flying from Kuwait City to Larnaca on Cyprus.

Low Cost Airlines in the Middle East
Sri Lanka's first low cost carrier, Mihin Lanka is now flying from Colombo to Dubai - the fourth South Asian LCC to operate a low fare route to the United Arab Emirates.
Elsewhere in the Middle East, both Saudia and Emirates are reviewing starting up their own budget airline subsidiaries.

Transatlantic Low Cost Airlines
As Transatlantic skies open, low fare airlines on both sides of the Atlantic including Southwest, jetBlue & Ryanair announce their intentions to fly from Europe to North America.
As early as Summer 2007, Zoom will commence flights from London to New York for a lowest tax-inclusive one-way fare of £179. Additionally Zoom will begin flying to Bermuda in June 2007.

Low Cost Airlines in Europe
Last week the Scottish regional airline Highland Airways announced it will start flying Wales' first domestic low fare route between Cardiff and Anglesey on May 9th.
Bigger news is the expected launch of a brand-new no-frills carrier, fly for beans later in 2007. The airline will connect Cardiff to major European cities.

In Sri Lanka, two new low cost airlines are about to take off: the government-sponsored Mihin Lanka and its competitor, Air South Asia.
Elsewhere, Malaysia Air is responding finally to the challenge from Air Asia by launching a new subsidiary. FireFly will operate cheap flights from Penang.

Low Cost Airlines in Asia
Budget airline Air India Express will now fly to Sri Lanka as well as to the Gulf States of Qatar and Bahrain.
The Indian low fare carrier has also added new routes to Singapore: AI Express now flies to the Lion City from Mumbai, Pune & Tiruchirapalli as well as from Chennai.
